Can you say conviction? As I read this and I had the revelation that some people either don't like to sing or feel self conscious about singing in public. I have looked at some folks in our worship meetings and thought they did not like to worship, when in fact it may just be that they don't feel comfortable singing in public. Thanks for a thought provoking blog.

How refreshing to read a balanced explanation of true worship! We should worship God in 'spirit and in truth' 'Truth' can also be translated 'reality'. I have been teaching for a long time that our worship of God should be a lifestyle -- not just singing a few songs on a Sunday. Sure, I love to sing, love to play keyboard in our own services, love to preach and teach, love to have fellowship with the saints -- all these are part of my worship of the One I love so much. It's also how I work, how I think, how I speak, how I love my wife, family and neighbours, how I drive my car, etc., all these too are part of my worship of the One who is Lord of my life, the centre of my attention, the One to whom I relate all things in my life.

I totally agree. In my small denomination it is common to hear of "worship wars;" meaning that people prefer different kinds of music and often divide over that one thing. Yet the Bible speaks of coming together for edification. Music is just one of the activities that edifies.
