“Confidence in God” is an article from the NLT Study Bible. It is a fantastic resource for anyone in the earlier stages of Bible study.

God gave Nehemiah favor in the eyes of a mighty Persian king so that the king responded favorably to all of Nehemiah’s requests (1:11; 2:8, 18). Nehemiah then had the confidence to present his bold plan to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, and the people of Jerusalem responded positively, believing that God was able to give them success in rebuilding the walls (2:20) and to protect them from their enemies (4:4-5, 9).

THEY CONFIDENTLY CONTINUED IN THEIR WORK…

…in spite of opposition because they knew that God fights for his people and frustrates the plans of the wicked (4:14-15, 20). When the walls of Jerusalem were finished, Nehemiah recognized that the entire difficult project was completed only because of God’s help (6:16).

The book of Nehemiah vividly demonstrates that God is all-powerful and able to accomplish his will, both in individual lives and in nations. Nehemiah’s prayer in ch. 9 focuses on praising God for his sovereign and powerful acts: God created the heavens and earth (9:6), called Abram from Ur, and gave the land to Israel (9:7-8, 22-25). The miraculous signs in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, and the provision of guidance, food, and water in the wilderness all demonstrate God’s power over man and nature to provide for his people (9:9-15).

The Lord had sent the Israelites into exile after generations of persistent sin (9:26-27). Now he was fulfilling part of his promise to restore them (1:8-9).

NEHEMIAH HAD THE CONFIDENCE IN GOD…

…to pray and lead because he knew that everything that happened was part of God’s sovereign plan. This same confidence in God’s sovereignty led Abram to leave Ur and by faith go to an unknown land (Gen 12:1-3; Heb 11:8-10), caused Rahab to trust in God (Josh 2:9-14; Heb 11:31), and prompted Hezekiah not to give in to the demands of the Assyrian king Sennacherib (2 Kgs 18–19).

Confidence comes when people believe that God will keep his promises and complete the work he has started in their lives (Phil 1:6).

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this:

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
    – Matthew 28:20 ♥

As is thy faith so be it unto yu.if yu can believe it and Gods promise covers it he will do it.

  3. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

      • My family relationships were broken, father and son, daughter and son. I was left in the middle hurting for my son to forgive and return home. My heart was broken I use to have bad dreams my son hurting I tried to reach him but it didn’t work. But God gave me a promise that he WILL RESTORE MY BORDERS AND BRING PEACE TO MY LAND. I NEVER GAVE UP ON THIS PROMISE IN TWO YEARS HE BROUGHT MY SON AND GRANDDAUGHTER BACK. BUT MY SON’S MARRIAGE BROKE UP. THAT WAS SAD BUT I GOT MY SON AND I SEE MY GRANDDAUGHTER EVERY WEEK.
GOD IS GOOD NEVER EVER GIVE UP ON HIM. HE WILL MAKE EVERYTHING GOOD IF YOU JUST TRUST HIM.

    • Thank you I have made plans but, I am not sure if they are God’s will for me and my family. It is important to me that this happens, so surrendering the outcome is hard. I want to just trust in his sovereign pan, but I find myself bartering with him again.

      • William Morrison

Bartering is an attempt to lead. That is just the opposite of the way to peace. First you have to decide if you want peace from God, or peace from some circumstance. You’ll get more from God than you could ever get from those circumstances. Shaloam.

    • Amen Amen, what God said is true but some times i have a big fear, how can i over come the fear?

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    -Philippians 1:6

  7. 35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

  8. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  10. I have found great comfort and confidence in passages that remind me that He who began a good work…will bring it to completion. My heart and my ways have not always been steadfast and I have stumbled. So, such reminders help me back on my feet again.
“…who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Cor. 1: 8-9

This message of God’s promisies and the very real confidence (the peace the surpasses undersatnding) we draw from God’s faithfulness, came to me at a very helpful time. Praise God and thank you all for sharing. I get so easily pulled in to worry, God’s promises are an anchor for me. Thank you!!

Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

  15. God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
    …….He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
    PSALM 46:1-2, 10

  16. Jesus is my confidence.I am being reminded each time I face trials that it is not by my might nor by my power to overcome it, but by the Spirit of the Almighty God. I shall shout grace!grace! to every great mountain and He shall make it plain for me.

  17. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of him.

Just like Nehemiah, Hezekiah, Isaiah, the apostles, and all those who have believed to date. He keeps hearing us and we have all confidence in Him. God of all Grace.

I almost lost confidence in God, as a business deal i was involved in was about to go south, but this message gave me hope and stirred up faith in my spirit. He showed himself strong once again and the business was successful.
